The turn of the new year has many of our athletes back on track with their workout routine. Their dedication and determination to make this year the best it can be is off the chain! At Milestone we kicked off 2017 with a 6 week nutritional challenge and have asked our athletes to get in 5 days of exercise, food log every meal every day, and complete a mini-challenge each week. So far, the results we have seen have been amazing! While there are quite a few athletes participating in this challenge, we have noticed a significant difference in one particular athlete and we wanted to recognize him as our January 2017 Athlete of the Month! Juan Alba has taken this challenge head on. He has been more consistent than ever, not just in the gym, but with his diet as well. He has become an inspiration to the community and is seeing great improvements in his fitness and physique! We are so proud of how far he has come in these few short weeks of the challenge, and at this rate, by the end of the year we expect to see a brand new version of this guy! Keep it up Juan!
An Interview with the Athlete:
Age? I'm 36 years old
How long have you been doing CrossFit? I've been doing this for 3 years.
What is your most favorite movement in a workout? Thrusters, believe it or not, they make your body push all the way to the limits that you never thought you could do.
What is your least favorite movement? Pull-ups, I haven't figured out yet, and obviously burpees.
What would your perfect WOD look like?
0 - 12min = 1 mile Run + ME Power Cleans (135/95rx)(185/125rx+)
12min - 20min = 800m Run + ME Deadlifts (185/125rx)(225/175rx+)
20min - 26min = 400m Run + Kettlebell Swings (55/35rx)(70/55rx+)
What is something you never thought you could do in CrossFit when you started, but can do now? Running and box jumps. When I first started I wasn't able to jump over a 10" box , I was really big then.
What is it that motivates you during a WOD? The people around me definitely, you don't get that kind of cheering and support anywhere else. Also, when I start seeing results and improvements that's definitely the key, the other part it's to keep me away from bad choices like drinking, because I use to drink a lot every day due to the fact that my work and the environment that I surround myself when I'm working it's really easy to make a bad choice or decision. There are some health reasons as well, my grand mom died with diabetes and my dad has diabetes, so I've been suffering a lot dealing with my dad with that , so I don't want my family to have to deal the same way with me. I think that with disease, it’s a sad way to die a little bit at a time.
What is a goal you have set to accomplish in the next 6 months? My goal - it's to do pull-ups , at least 1 muscle up , and double unders, but the most important - stay consistent on my training and food. I think the hardest part is the food and to stay away from the bad habits.
